Do I Qualify?
Our rescue prioritizes the safety and health of every long dog. To ensure a successful and lifelong match, we look for adopters who meet the following core criteria:
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
- You must reside in the South Florida area (or be willing to travel for home checks).
- All current pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
- A vet reference and personal references are required for all applications.
- If you rent, we require written proof from your landlord that pets are allowed.
Adopting for Seniors
The following are the ages of dogs that we will offer for adoption for seniors:
* Adopters that are 75-79 years old - dogs that are 6 years or older.
* Adopters that are 80 and over - dogs that are 8 years or older.

Our Adoption Process
1. Application Submission
The journey begins with our online application. Provide detailed information about your home, lifestyle, and experience to help us find the perfect match.
2. Phone Interview
Once screened, a volunteer will contact you for a friendly chat. This is a great time to ask questions and for us to learn more about your expectations.
3. Home Visit
We conduct a home visit (in-person or virtual) to ensure a safe environment for a 'long dog'. We'll check fences and identify potential safety hazards.
4. Final Match & Placement
After approval, we work to find the right dog for your home. Once matched, you'll sign the adoption contract and welcome your new family member home!
Vetting & Care
We take the health of our rescue pups seriously. Before any dachshund is ready for their forever home, they undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation and assessment. This ensures that every dog we place is healthy, happy, and fully prepared for their new life. All dogs are spayed or neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped prior to adoption.
