IVDD - 101
IVDD is one of the most terrifying and stressful situations a doxie family can face.  The most important thing to know is that IVDD is NOT a death sentence. There are resources to help no matter what your budget is for care.
Dogerslist.com
Dodgers is the most comprehensive collection of information on IVDD available and they offer information on both the surgical and crate rest options for treatment.  Read up on both to determine which method is best for you. The 2nd most important thing to do on Dodgers is to join their message boards as their moderators are staffed by non-medical people who have been through what you are facing and can provide personalized support for both you and your doxie.

Life After IVDD
When faced with IVDD it may seem that there is no way that life can go on after or how a doxie would live a happy, healthy life being paralyzed (if surgery is not an option).  We are here to tell you that even on two degs a doxie's spirt cannot be contained!  There are some amazing resources out there to show what is possible:

The National Walk 'n Roll Dog Day celebrates dogs of all breeds in wheelchairs along with info on the Frankie Wheelchair Fund.
Flying With Wheels!
DRSF dogs use Eddie's Wheels carts and we are so taken by their dedication and quality, we even visited them at their factory! Check out their site for info on ordering as well as their information on "pre-loved" carts!
Red Flyer
Red Flyer accepts used wheelchairs, refurbishes them and loans them at no charge to families of handicapped pets in need...that no pet should be alone or without the gift of mobility.

The Rolling Dog Project - DIY Cart
Jerry West at The Rolling Dog Project has designed a DIY cart made from PVC Pipe that can be scaled up or down from a doxie to a shepherd and assembled with $25-$50 worth of supplies.  Check out The Rolling Dog project on Facebook and see the Step by Step Guide With Photos on Flickr!

Pet Insurance
DRSF Partners with Trupanion which provides one simple plan that covers 90%* of your unexpected veterinary costs, including hospital stays, diagnostic tests, medications, surgeries and other treatments that arise when your canine friend is ill or injured. The 90% coverage kicks in after your deductible has been met, and there are no limits on the amount we reimburse.

Financial Resources
It’s difficult enough having a pet sick or injured, but that stress is only compounded when facing a hefty bill at an animal hospital that you are unable to afford.  Here are some organizations that offer financial assistance for veterinary bills.
