A Message To Adoptive Families During COVID-19

Hi and thank you for wanting to adopt a dachshund from Dachshund Rescue South Florida.  COVID-19 has done so many things to interrupt our world and DRSF is one of those things that has been interrupted.  While we were bracing ourselves for an onslaught of dogs, that hasn’t occurred. Another unexpected thing that has happened is the tremendous amount of people who want to adopt while they are home in quarantine.  With that combination of events, we have very few young dogs (what we call the highly adoptables) and we have many approved applications from people who want perfectly healthy young dogs waiting for us to get dogs in and vetted.

What we are going to do for the short term is STOP processing applications for any dog who is not listed on the DRSF website (www.dachshundrescuesouthflorida.com).  Please do not look anywhere else at DRSF dogs, like PetFinder.com, those sites are not controlled by our volunteers, they are controlled by the staff of those sites where we have them to get exposure.  There is no website that is accurate except for the DRSF website.

If you see adoptions of dogs that you have not seen on the website or introduced on our social media, know that they are being adopted by people who submitted an application prior to today, have gone all the way through the process, been approved and have been patiently waiting for a good match for their family.

If you still would like to apply to adopt from us, please be sure that you are interested in one or more of the dogs whose picture you see on our available dogs page today.  We will NOT be processing applications for dogs that are not listed there. Yes, we know the majority of those dogs are older and some even have disabilities or medical issues, maybe this is the time to be open to a dog that is truly in need of a forever home.

Please keep in mind that our application is a general application for any dog in our care, now and for the next year.  If you see a dog on our website and it ends up not being a good match or not being available, sit tight, we are confident that we will have a perfect family member for you in the near future.

Also in the short term, we will be reducing the adoption fee for any dog that is on our website right now by $50.  Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing some of these little ones head to their forever homes.

I Have Read and Understand! Take me to the application!
